Job Description:
Credit Counsellor Primary Responsibilities: The counsellor will receive incoming inquiries from across the country from consumers in various stages of payment distress. As a non-profit organization, the Counsellor should be dedicated to helping consumers improve the quality of their life through financial education and debt consolidation programs. Counsellors/Credit Counsellors help customers in budgeting, managing their finances, and eliminating unsecured debt. Credit Counsellor General Description: Engaging person who enjoys talking with people over the phone, or in person and helping them by providing sound financial advice and counselling • Determine debt obligations by interviewing clients; examining bills and payment schedules • Determine financial resources by examining income, assets and expenses, • Develop a financial plan for the client where necessary by reducing high-interest debt • Establish priorities, goals and a living expense budget while developing a Debt Management Program for the client, as required
Experience Required:
• Post-secondary education • Specialized certification such as AFCC or ICQC or equivalent an asset • Previous experience in credit and/or collections, financial planning and sales preferred • Strong people skills and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form • Ability to empathize with people in distress • Effective interviewing and fact gathering skills • Knowledge and use of PC Systems and MS Office applications is a must • Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines • Self-motivated, willingness to constantly improve • Attention to detail and be able to multi-task and prioritize work on a daily basis
